The first year (1975) there was an impromptu gathering involving mainly cars from our own club and a few other area rodders. The following year, the Willmar run became an "official" MSRA function (dubbed the "West Central Rod Roundup") complete with MSRA-supplied dash plaques, a burger feed and other activities. There were more cars, too, including a bunch from the Twin Cities area. These cars, understand, were the pros. The big guys. The magazine features. We weren't used to seeing cars of that caliber in our neighborhood and it was totally cool to have them. The metro-area visitors were led by MSRA secretary Pete Olson, who hit the Willmar lakes area with his flagship '40 Ford convert, camper, and customary gusto. R.I.P., Pete. We miss ya.
From there, we roll up to 1981 for the first Willmar Car Show held at the Kandiyohi County fairgrounds in Willmar.
Here, in genuine film-derived pixels from my own vintage archives, are the images.
